The information and program qualifications related to the Offshore Engineering Master of Science Program, under the Department of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering of the Graduate School, are summarized below.
Information About The Program
Due to change of demands in ship building industry, besides the existing "Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering" graduate program, a program named "Offshore Engineering" has been offered at Istanbul Technical University. In general, "Offshore Engineering" comprises the subjects of design, design related calculations, maintenance, environmental issues and decommissioning of structures build in seas or oceans. Considering the potential overseas students the program is designated to be in English. All classes are delivered in English by academic personnel expert in their areas. Well-known universities with Offshore Engineering Programs have been considered in determining the compulsory courses and their contents. Graduates of Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering programs may apply.

Program Learning Environments
Offshore Engineering Master’s Program offers students various physical and digital learning environments where they can consolidate their theoretical knowledge and put it into practice. The program includes modern classrooms, laboratories, and computer-aided workspaces that support students throughout their educational journey. While theoretical courses are conducted face-to-face in classroom settings, some courses are also delivered through online platforms, providing remote access opportunities. In laboratory studies, students enhance their engineering skills through practical applications such as hydrodynamic analyses, environmental assessments, and numerical modeling, while gaining experience in analysis and design using various software tools. These learning environments contribute to the training of well-equipped individuals capable of developing innovative solutions in the field of offshore engineering.

Program Educational Objectives
In addition to "Engineering Mathematics", which is the compulsory course for all graduate programs of Istanbul Technical University, Offshore Engineering Program offers another compulsory course in mathematics: "Simulations of Solid and Fluid Problems". This course aims at endowing students with the ability to solve advanced solid and fluid problems by using a commercial software. Besides the compulsory mathematics courses two compulsory courses emphasizing the main theme of the Offshore Engineering Program are offered. These courses are "Offshore Engineering Mechanics: Hydrodynamics" and "Offshore Engineering Mechanics: Structural Dynamics". Main concerns of Offshore Engineering; namely, estimation of hydrodynamic loads and response of structures to these loads are addressed in these courses to acquaint students with these subjects. Other than these compulsory courses Offshore Engineering Program offers several elective courses. Elective courses on offshore wind farms or environmental aspects of offshore activities widen students' potential work areas. Students may take related elective courses from the courses of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering Graduate Program or more generally from the entire graduate and doctorate programs of Istanbul Technical University.
Measurement and Evaluation
Evaluating Student Success
The student success is evaluated considering Articles 56, 57, 58, and 59 of the Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education and Training Regulation Senate Principles.
ARTICLE 56 - Before the enrollment for the courses begins, the faculty member who offers the course informs the Program Executive Committee about the types, number and contribution percentage to the final grade of the studies within the semester, as well as requirements for a right to take the semester final exam. These requirements shall be finalized by approval of the Program Executive Committee and approval of the chair of the department, who declares them to the student and informs the Graduate School.
ARTICLE 57 - A student may appeal the final grade of a course within one week following the announcement of the grades. Appeals must be submitted to the Graduate School in writing. The relevant faculty member shall re-evaluate the student's success status and submit the result to the Graduate School within one week. Appeals not submitted within the prescribed time frame shall not be considered by the Graduate School.
ARTICLE 58 - Courses in graduate programs shall be evaluated according to the following grading system.
