Program Profile
The primary objective of the ITU–Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzMIU) Joint Undergraduate Program in Civil Engineering is to combine the academic strengths of two leading universities from Turkey and Azerbaijan, providing students with a comprehensive and balanced civil engineering education at an international level. The program aims to equip students with an international perspective by enabling them to experience different engineering approaches, standards, and practices, and to graduate as highly competent engineers capable of competing on a global scale.
By integrating ITU's deep-rooted engineering tradition and research capacity with AzMIU's regional expertise and applied education approach, the program aims to cultivate graduates who are not only equipped with technical knowledge but are also adaptable to changing global conditions, capable of critical thinking, innovative, and committed to ethical values. Through education in two different countries, the program seeks to prepare future engineers with advanced language skills, cultural awareness, and a broad professional vision, enabling them to take active roles in international projects, collaborate successfully in multicultural teams, and develop global solutions for societal needs in civil engineering. This dual-degree structure reflects an educational philosophy that encourages students to embrace lifelong learning and adapt to continuously evolving professional demands.

Program Learning Environments
The learning environments of the ITU–Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzMIU) Joint Undergraduate Program in Civil Engineering are shaped by the integration of the educational infrastructure and the academic and cultural heritage of two established universities. The program offers students the opportunity to study at two different university campuses in two different countries at various stages of their undergraduate education.
In the first two years of the program, students complete their studies at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzMIU) in Baku. During this period, they learn the fundamental principles of civil engineering through theoretical courses, laboratory applications, and project-based studies in basic engineering sciences offered by AzMIU. The strong theoretical foundation acquired here forms the cornerstone of their education in the following years.
In the third and fourth years of the program, students continue their education at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). At ITU, they benefit from the world-class laboratories of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, advanced computer software, and a rich technical library. They gain the ability to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world problems through design-oriented courses, hands-on engineering projects, and elective courses covering current research topics.
This structure provides students with the opportunity to closely examine the construction sector practices, engineering standards, and academic cultures of two different countries. Exposure to different educational systems and cultural environments enhances students' analytical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability skills. Throughout the program, students have full access to the modern classrooms, laboratories, online learning platforms, academic advising services, and social facilities of both universities.
