Developments in energy and its related theme covering technical, economic, environmental, and social issues make it necessary to adopt a multidisciplinary vision for the education of energy engineers and managers

The MSc and PhD program for "Energy Science and Technologies" in the Institute of Energy was prepared

to meet the requirement of interdisciplinary education on energy development at the graduate level, and
to educate and enable engineers who comprehend environmental and economic issues
to generate new solutions in the area of energy technologies.

The students are directed to specialize in current research topics as;

Renewable Energy,
Nuclear Energy,
Conventional Energy, and
Energy Planning and Management.

Application Requirements (For T.C Nationality)
ALES Numerical must be minimum 75 (old system GRE Quantitative minimum 700, new system GRE minimum 155 ). Undergraduate GPA must be minimum 2.5/4 (65/100). Graduation must be All Engineering, Economics / Ekonomi, Physical, Business, Chemistry / Kimya, Chemistry / Kimyagerlik, Mathematic, Mathematics and Computer Science, Architecture.

Course Adjustment and Exemption Procedures

Course adjustment and exemption procedures are carried out in accordance with the Exemption and Adjustment Procedures Regulation of Istanbul Technical University.

Program Educational Objectives

To train the human power that can do scientific researches, have an academic formation, can acquire information from different discipline fields and integrate and interpret it with the education, and can create and apply original new information within the fields related to energy.


Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluating Student Success
The student success is evaluated considering Articles 56, 57, 58, and 59 of the Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education and Training Regulation Senate Principles.

ARTICLE 56 - Before the enrollment for the courses begins, the faculty member who offers the course informs the Program Executive Committee about the types, number and contribution percentage to the final grade of the studies within the semester, as well as requirements for a right to take the semester final exam. These requirements shall be finalized by approval of the Program Executive Committee and approval of the chair of the department, who declares them to the student and informs the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 57 - A student may appeal the final grade of a course within one week following the announcement of the grades. Appeals must be submitted to the Graduate School in writing. The relevant faculty member shall re-evaluate the student's success status and submit the result to the Graduate School within one week. Appeals not submitted within the prescribed time frame shall not be considered by the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 58 - Courses in graduate programs shall be evaluated according to the following grading system.

ARTICLE 59 - Students who wish to improve their cumulative grade point average may retake courses during the course-taking period. The most recent grade will be counted for the repeated courses.


Internship

There is no internship in this program.


Graduation Requirements

- The minimum required credit for graduation: 24
- Minimum compulsory course credit: 12 (If students wish they may also take all their courses from the compulsory course pool with the approval of their advisors).
- The total credit of the courses in English is at least 30% of the minimum credit.
- Courses are three credits.
- Student may choose course from the other graduate programs within the university with the approval of his/her advisor. Additionally; with the suggestion of his/her advisor and program executive committee, with the sanction of the head of institute department/art major and with the institute board decision; they may take up to two elective graduate courses which are related with the main program from the given courses at the other higher education institutions. The courses that will be taken from the other higher education institutions must not to be opened at the university’s education programs.
- EBT501E Engineering Mathematics and EBT596 Seminar Course(non-credit) are mandatory for all students.
- Every semester starting from the third semester, the student has to register to the thesis and the specialization field course which is opened by his/her advisor. The students which are successfully completed the compulsory course credits can register to the thesis before that time.

P.O.1 Grasping interdisciplinary interaction related to energy area, developing, and intensifying the current and high knowledge in that area based upon the competency in graduate level (knowledge).
P.O.2 By means of ability to use theoretical and practical information related energy area, to combine and interpret them with information from different disciplines producing new information and solving the faced problems by related searching methods (skill).
P.O.3 By means of the ability to critically analyze knowledge, skills and also a study related to energy area that requires expertise on that area, directing and continuing independently, developing new strategies for the problems that are not foreseen and taking the responsibilities together with fulfilling the leader role, the ability to produce solutions for that problems (competence to work independently, competence to take responsibility, competence to learning).
P.O.4 By means of the ability to promote current development and studies by supporting with qualitative and quantitative data and to use computer software together with information and communication technologies with a required level, critical analyzing, developing and altering, if required, social relationships and the norms directing these relationships, establishing written oral and visual communication with groups within energy or different fields (communication and social competency).
P.O.5 Proficiency in a foreign language and establishing written, oral and visual communication with that language for presenting one’s studies in the international environment (communication and social competency).
P.O.6 By means of the ability to inspect the steps like gathering, interpreting, implementing and announcing related data with the energy area by overseeing scientific, cultural and ethical norms, teaching these norms, developing strategy, policy and action plans in related subjects and evaluating the obtained results by making the use of quality processes, using the gathered information and solving problems and/or implementation skills in the interdisciplinary strategies (area specific competency).
