Information About The Program
The roots of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department are based on the foundation of Istanbul Technical University, The Department is the first Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department established in our country, as well as is a pioneer, leader and world renowned in the field. The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering educates students on the design all kinds of underwater and surface vehicles (sailing boat, motoryacht, commercial and naval ships, submarine, AUV, ROV etc.), their hydrodynamic analysis, structural analysis, hydrostatics and stability analyses, intact and damaged stability analyses, launching calculations, propeller design and marine engine system design. Students obtain the degree of Bachelor of Science in "Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering" after successfully completing of the program. The department leads Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering programs in Turkey by offering courses in current design and manufacturing methods, basic mathematics and engineering formation as well as implementing continuous improvement in education. The program enables students to communicate effectively and to gain ability in decision-making, problem solving, leadership and management skills as well as professional and ethical responsibility, and to follow the latest technological developments. In this regard, the Department has been accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) to sustain the quality of education. The department offers dual degrees as well as collaborates with leading universities in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in England, Scotland, Germany, USA and Japan . Furthermore, students may have the opportunity to study a certain period of their studies in European Union countries through the EU's Erasmus Exchange Program.
