The information and program qualifications related to the Geological Engineering Bachelor of Science Program, under the Department of Geological Engineering of the Faculty of Mines, are summarized below.
Information About The Program
The Department of Geological Engineering is dedicated to providing the highest quality of student-based teaching and research opportunities. We have about 273 undergraduate geology majors, 36 Master, and 12 Ph.D. students. Our Department is the largest Geology department in Turkey with 33 vigorous faculty members, diversity of teaching and research interests and a number of SCI publications per faculty each year. Moreover, all laboratories are renovated and modernized in 2009. Our undergraduate program was evaluated by ABET in 2004.
Our department leads and organizes a wide range of academic activities and organizations of symposium and meetings. Many distinguished visitors and guest lecturers in all relevant specialties come to our department each year, providing valuable interactions which benefit everyone. Our faculty members have close relations with foreign universities and research centers for joint research projects. Our university has exchange agreements with many American and European universities as well as Erasmus Program, so undergraduate and graduate students can easily go abroad. Undergraduates have the option of pursuing a minor or continuing double major program from any Department in ITU. In addition to the traditional fields of geological sciences, our active tectonics program benefits from the resources made available unique geological features of Turkey.
