The information and program qualifications related to the Mechanical Engineering Bachelor of Science Program, under the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, are summarized below.
Information About The Program
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is one of the first four faculties established with the transformation of the Istanbul Graduate School of Engineering, which dates back to the Imperial Naval School of Engineering (1773), into Istanbul Technical University in 1944.
In 1926, the Institute of Electromechanics was established within the Faculty of Science of Istanbul Darülfünunu. This institute was moved to the Graduate School of Engineering, which was thought to be reorganized as a faculty of Istanbul University, which was established with the 1933 University Reform. However, it soon became the Electromechanics Branch of the Graduate School of Engineering. This branch was divided into Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Branches as a result of the arrangement made in the curriculum in 1935. Over time, aircraft engineering and naval engineering programs were established under the Mechanical Engineering Branch. Thus, the growing Mechanical Engineering Branch became one of the four founding Faculties when the Istanbul Graduate School of Engineering was transformed into Istanbul Technical University in 1944.
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering conducts training and research on the design, development, and production planning of all kinds of mechanical systems and energy conversion systems. Research and development studies are carried out in many fields from the automotive industry to energy production, from the petrochemical industry to robot technology, and from the textile industry to the defense industry.
Today, the ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, which is a modern education and research institution in line with world technology, is one of the faculties with the largest research laboratories in our country.
Mission
To raise modern mechanical engineers who can be recognized for their successful work at all levels of national and international organizations, can follow current technology, take an active part in the practices of their profession, are sensitive to the environment and society, respect professional ethical values, have creative, entrepreneurial and leadership qualities; to be a pioneer in expanding and developing the technological horizons of the country with the basic and applied scientific researches in universal standards, to contribute to science and society by publishing the researches.
Vision
To be the focus of mechanical engineering science and technology as a contemporary and leading faculty at national and international levels.
