Information About The Program

"Project and Construction Management", or its common name "Construction Projects Management", is an independent profession and activity which performed in the construction industry nearly for 50 years all over the world. Project and Construction Management is a generally accepted area not only in construction practice, but also in the graduate programs. There are large numbers of undergraduate, master degree and PhD. programs where this profession is educated over the world. In Turkey, this education field firstly took place in the courses of Department of Architecture in ITU Faculty of Architecture and again master’s and Ph.D. level education firstly took place in Project and Construction Management Graduate Program of ITU Graduate School of Science Engineering and Technology Department of Architecture.

Application Requirements (For T.C Nationality)
ALES Numerical must be minimum 85 (old system GRE Quantitative minimum 740, new system GRE minimum 158 ). Graduate GPA must be minimum 3.00/4 (76.66/100). Minimum GPA from undergraduate to doctorate must be 3.5/4 (88.33/100). Graduation must be Civil Engineering, Architecture. PhD applicants are required to obtain a letter of acceptance from the supervisor they plan to work with during their education.

Program Educational Objectives

 Ensuring the graduates can make international level research by using the contemporary management techniques and tools, current communication and information technologies used in the field of project and construction management
 Ensuring the graduates have the culture, innovative character, the latest technological development knowledge and management skills to solve all kinds of problems encountered in their field in the long run
 Ensuring the graduates can access to available information, can intensify knowledge in the direction of research and can classify and use that knowledge to bring contemporary solutions to the current problems of the construction industry
 Ensuring the graduates gain skills in problem solving in the field of project and construction management; decision making and leadership in addition to generate international collaborations
 Ensuring the graduates have acquired group and individual research ethics, discipline, and culture
 Making theses based on original researches using theoretical knowledge, various approaches, methods and techniques in the cross section of architecture, civil engineering and business engineering professions
 Making national and international publications from theses based on original researches


Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluating Student Success
The student success is evaluated considering Articles 56, 57, 58, and 59 of the Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education and Training Regulation Senate Principles.

ARTICLE 56 - Before the enrollment for the courses begins, the faculty member who offers the course informs the Program Executive Committee about the types, number and contribution percentage to the final grade of the studies within the semester, as well as requirements for a right to take the semester final exam. These requirements shall be finalized by approval of the Program Executive Committee and approval of the chair of the department, who declares them to the student and informs the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 57 - A student may appeal the final grade of a course within one week following the announcement of the grades. Appeals must be submitted to the Graduate School in writing. The relevant faculty member shall re-evaluate the student's success status and submit the result to the Graduate School within one week. Appeals not submitted within the prescribed time frame shall not be considered by the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 58 - Courses in graduate programs shall be evaluated according to the following grading system.

ARTICLE 59 - Students who wish to improve their cumulative grade point average may retake courses during the course-taking period. The most recent grade will be counted for the repeated courses.


Internship

There is no internship in this program.


Graduation Requirements

1. Project and Construction Management Ph.D. Program students:
a. Must successfully complete at least 21 credits during the Ph.D.
b. Must take at least 50% of the total credits that they must take during their studies from 600-coded courses.
c. Must take at least 30% of the total credits that they must take during their studies from English courses.
2. Project and Construction Management Ph.D. Program students must have a GPA of at least 3.00, must successfully complete seminar, doctorate proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, in order to graduate from Ph.D. program.

It is observed that the field of construction management has developed rapidly in our country parallel to the developments in the world. In the field of project and construction management, the construction managers at the doctoral level have the opportunity to work in the areas of construction management knowledge areas such as; scope, cost, time, quality, communication, integration, human resources, procurement, risk, occupational health and safety, strategic management, finance, information technology and environmental management, that can create added value in the sectoral sense to the problems that will arise within the framework of current needs and developments.
