Information About The Program
"Project and Construction Management", or its common name "Construction Projects Management", is an independent profession and activity which performed in the construction industry nearly for 50 years all over the world. Project and Construction Management is a generally accepted area not only in construction practice, but also in the graduate programs. There are large numbers of undergraduate, master degree and PhD. programs where this profession is educated over the world. In Turkey, this education field firstly took place in the courses of Department of Architecture in ITU Faculty of Architecture. Prof. Tulu Baytın, who is a retired professor of ITU Faculty of Architecture, was awarded by TUBITAK in 2000 with his contributions to the field by introducing Project and Construction Management field to the structure of education programs and being a pioneer to establish a Master of Science degree program. Project and Construction Management (PYY) Division, began its academic activities in 1973 by offering courses “Building Production Systems, Building Cost, Construction Management and Economics and Professional Practice” in the Architectural undergraduate program. In 1975, PYY Division started to run a graduate program leading to a “Master of Science degree in Building Construction Management” and the program is currently pursued at the Institute of Science & Technology, Department of Architecture as “Project and Construction Management” Graduate Program.

Training professionals and researchers, who have in-depth knowledge on application of project and construction management subject matter in both the office and the field and who are able to provide the continuity and sustainability of information following the developing technology

Evaluating Student Success
The student success is evaluated considering Articles 56, 57, 58, and 59 of the Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education and Training Regulation Senate Principles.
ARTICLE 56 - Before the enrollment for the courses begins, the faculty member who offers the course informs the Program Executive Committee about the types, number and contribution percentage to the final grade of the studies within the semester, as well as requirements for a right to take the semester final exam. These requirements shall be finalized by approval of the Program Executive Committee and approval of the chair of the department, who declares them to the student and informs the Graduate School.
ARTICLE 57 - A student may appeal the final grade of a course within one week following the announcement of the grades. Appeals must be submitted to the Graduate School in writing. The relevant faculty member shall re-evaluate the student's success status and submit the result to the Graduate School within one week. Appeals not submitted within the prescribed time frame shall not be considered by the Graduate School.
ARTICLE 58 - Courses in graduate programs shall be evaluated according to the following grading system.

ARTICLE 59 - Students who wish to improve their cumulative grade point average may retake courses during the course-taking period. The most recent grade will be counted for the repeated courses.

Graduation Requirements
1. Project and Construction Management Master’s Program students:
a. Must successfully complete at least 30 credits during the master’s degree.
b. Must take at least 50% of the total credits that they must take during their studies from compulsory courses.
c. Must take at least 30% of the total credits that they must take during their studies from English courses.
d. Must take at least 1 mathematics course.
2. Project and Construction Management Master’s Program students must have a GPA of at least 3.00, must successfully complete seminar course and thesis study, in order to graduate from master’s program.

Program Employment Opportunities
Construction Project Managers plan, coordinate and supervise on the basis of time, cost and quality in all the design and construction phases following the decision to build. Construction Project Managers can have various titles such as; project manager, site supervisor, chief supervisor, coordinator, etc. Construction Project Managers; can be owner or salaried employee of a construction management firm or a contractor firm or can be a consultant of a property owner during a specific construction project. Construction Project Managers can plan and direct only a certain part or whole of a construction project.
Today, construction projects are getting bigger and more complicated. Construction projects can be divided into several parts. Construction Project Managers can be responsible for one or more of the actions related to the construction projects and work with the architects, engineers and other participants in the construction projects.

Program Outcomes
P.O.1 The ability to use the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the PCM area, developing and intensifying those knowledge, based upon the competency gained in the undergraduate level, Interpreting and forming new types of knowledge by combining the knowledge from the PCM area and knowledge from various other disciplines.
P.O.2 Using the knowledge and the skills for problem solving and/or application (which are processed within the PCM area) in inter-disciplinary studies, grasping the inter-disciplinary interaction related to the PCM area.
P.O.3 Solving the problems faced in the PCM area by making use of the research methods, developing new strategic approaches to solve the unforeseen and complex problems arising in the practical processes of the PCM area and coming up with solutions while taking responsibility, assessing the specialistic knowledge and skill gained through the study with a critical view and directing one’s own learning process, the ability to carry out a specialistic study related to the PCM area independently.
P.O.4 Fulfilling the leader role in the environments where solutions are sought for the problems related to the PCM area, ability to see and develop social relationships and the norms directing these relationships with a critical look and the ability to take action to change these when necessary.
