The information and program qualifications related to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Bachelor of Science Program, under the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering of the Faculty of Mines, are summarized below.
Information About The Program
Energy is an unquestionable requirement in our everyday lives. Our nation and the world cannot exist without energy. Oil and natural gas provide about 60 percent of the energy used in the world.
Petroleum and natural gas engineering is an engineering discipline that addresses and solves affordable energy supply by considering environmental impact. This major runs the world and provides the driving force for every other profession to effectively achieve its work.
Petroleum and natural gas engineers deal with economic and environmentally safe production of petroleum, natural gas and geothermal resources. Extraction of these energy resources require creative and imaginative application of a wide spectrum of knowledge, including but not limited to basic sciences, such as mathematics, physics, geology and chemistry.
Petroleum and natural gas engineering intersects with many of the core engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, and computer engineering.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineers will
• evaluate potential oil, gas, and geothermal reservoirs considering geological, geophysical and environmental information,
• design and execute drilling activities,
• design surface and subsurface production and treatment facilities,
• select and implement cost effective recovery methods.
