Program Employment Opportunities
Maritime Transportation and Management graduates are in high demand in the maritime sector, especially by large international companies, due to the cross-border education that they received while being a part of the program. After graduation, the cadets who choose to ship out receive their unlimited deck officer license after passing the exam administered by the Directorate General of Maritime and Inland Waters Regulation of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey. After a 2-year service, they receive their unlimited first deck officer title and after 4 years they become an unlimited oceangoing master following another exam. Several graduates have also chosen to get their graduate degrees in ITU Maritime Faculty, SUNY Maritime College, or other institutions in Turkey, USA, and United Kingdom. Please note that due to the US Coast Guard regulations, it is not possible to get a US license for the graduates of this program.
After gaining experience by working on ships for a certain time at sea, the graduates of the department can undertake duties such as general manager, business manager, technical manager, deck inspector, and personnel inspector in maritime companies. Again, graduates of the department can work as pilots in the Straits Region and Turkish ports after their sea experience.
