Because Turkish folk dances are an integral part of cultural identity, they are evaluated and taught in conjunction with the cultural elements that inspire and represent them. At the same time, as a performance discipline, they encompass a comprehensive body of content within the framework of the performing arts.
In this context, the Department of Turkish Folk Dances aims to educate students who possess both theoretical and practical skills, have acquired a systematic approach to scientific and artistic thought, and are open to further development.

Program Learning Environments
As the Department of Turkish Folk Dance at the Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory of Turkish Music, we provide curriculum-based instruction not only in traditional classrooms but also in numerous dance studios, and we further support education through various workshops organized throughout the year.
Given the nature of the field, we also provide opportunities for students to conduct research in a wide range of areas as part of their graduation projects.

Program Educational Objectives
To provide fundamental knowledge about mostly local and international dance techniques, theories and dance cultures of the world and comparison with the modern and formal concept. The students are able to apply their knowledge into international dance platforms.
Measurement and Evaluation
Student success is evaluated in consideration of Articles 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 of the Istanbul Technical University Undergraduate Education and Training Regulation.

Program Employment Opportunities
Our graduates can work at relevant ministries, state choirs, public education centers and government institutions such as TRT in addition to private dance groups as dancers, researchers, choreographers and trainers, they can also work as academic staff at relevant departments of universities.
