Information About The Program
The significance of data and artificial intelligence is undeniable at the stage of modern technology. Data and artificial intelligence are structuring the future of economy, industry and science. The artificial intelligence revolution causes radical changes in the fields of technology, economy and society. On the other hand, data is the key element that connects many sectors from healthcare to finance, from automotive to entertainment and ensures the efficient growth of these sectors. Data serves as a building block not only in the evolution of new economies, but also in the development of artificial intelligence.
The Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering Department was established within the ITU Faculty of Computer and Informatics in order to educate scientists and business people who will lead this revolution that is expected to shape the future in Turkey.
ITU Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering, which started its education in the 2020-2021 academic year, is also the first department in Turkey to combine artificial intelligence and data science.
This department is designed to encompass computer science as a base and artificial intelligence systems and data engineering as an application.
It is aimed that this program will nurture industrial organizations and academic institutions by educating graduates who can produce solutions and products based on advanced artificial intelligence and data engineering techniques for the needs of society, the country's institutions and the industrial sector. With the proposed program, it is aimed to educate internationally recognized artificial intelligence and data engineers with scientific and technological knowledge who can follow rapidly developing artificial intelligence and data engineering technologies.
The quota of the department is 40+1 (for th top student of high-school) and the language of the education is 100% English. For students who cannot meet the foreign language proficiency requirement (minimum IBT=79 from TOEFL), English preparatory education will be given at ITU in addition to the undergraduate education planned for 4 years.
The academic staff of the department draws attention especially with their international achievements from different disciplines. Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering is opened with the support of ITU Computer Engineering Department, which is a very strong faculty in terms of education, academic and industrial collaborations. ITU Computer Engineering Department includes an academic staff that conducts advanced academic research and produces artificial intelligence-based projects competitively when compared to their national and international counterparts in artificial intelligence and data science. The diversity and national/international quality of these faculty members working on artificial intelligence is a strength that forms the infrastructure of the proposed program. Active research topics studied by the faculty members related to artificial intelligence are as follows: computer networks, computer vision, earthquake prediction, nature-inspired computing, natural language processing, machine learning, parallel and distributed computing, data mining, artificial intelligence and robotics. , agricultural monitoring and information systems, bioinformatics, software modeling and analysis.
