The information and program qualifications related to the Mining Engineering Bachelor of Science Program, under the Department of Mining Engineering of the Faculty of Mines, are summarized below.
Information About The Program
Mining is defined as the job providing application of the techniques and methods of prospecting, exploration and extraction of underground resources (metallic minerals-ores, coal and industrial minerals) by different methods based on the rules of economy, environment and safety and serving them to the human being. It is one of the most respected and old occupation in the world providing for improvement of the civilization. Thus, the Mining Engineering occupation also covers the design and planning of different underground and surface structures (underground mines, open cast mines, tunnels, etc.) and production-excavation-supporting-ventilation-haulage-beneficiation and similar processes by different methods.
The vision of our Department is to continue its high educational standards equal to the internationally well-known Mining Engineering departments and to educate students for playing an active role in industry, satisfying present and future needs of a global society through the development and implementation of revolutionary technologies for the extraction of mineral resources, and construction of underground structures in a socially responsible, economically viable and environmentally sound manner. Our department provides a “Diploma” on the field of “Mining Engineering”. A diploma is given to our graduated students with the degree of “Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering”.
Mining Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University was founded in 1953 as the first Mining Engineering Department of Turkey. Since then, many students graduated from our Department, of which developed and is still developing many expertise areas providing for many different job opportunities to our graduates.
